KIRKLAND, Wash. – A stingy Southern Oregon defense held Northwest University scoreless as they shut out the Eagles 2-0, to improve to 8-1 in conference play this afternoon.

It looked as though the first half would end in a scoreless tie, but Logan Guler’s header, with just two seconds left on the clock, would give the Raiders a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Guler took Kelly Gieber’s pass from the left and headed the ball past the NU goalkeeper.

Southern Oregon would get the game clincher in the 62nd minute when Esteban Castaneda dribbled down the left side and put his shot into the right corner for the unassisted goal. It would be the Raider defense that would limit Northwest U to just three shots on goal while taking seven of their own.

Northwest U’s (7-4-1, 5-2-1 CCC) Max Schellmann took three shots to lead the Eagles while Daniel Christenson made five saves in goal in the loss.

Wyatt Zabinski earned the shutout in goal for Southern Oregon (8-6, 8-1 CCC) with three saves. Esteban Castaneda led the Raiders with three shots and one goal. SOU held a 16-11 edge on the shots and a 6-5 margin on corner kicks.

Said Gary McIntosh after the game, “I was disappointed with the way we played today. From the beginning we could not get anything going offensively and just struggled all game to connect passes.  We
 must be better.”
