Second Half Goals Lifts Eagles to Victory

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Southern Oregon held Northwest University scoreless for 75 minutes, but the Eagles rallied from a 1-0 deficit for a 2-1 come from behind victory with two late second half goals.
 
Cassandra Kohler put the Raiders into a 1-0 lead 30:24 into the game as her shot from 16 yards out on the left side found the upper part of the net. Misty Martinez got credit for the assist centering the ball nicely to Kohler for the finish. SOU would take a 1-0 lead at the half.
 
The Southern Oregon defense stiffened and would hold Northwest U without a score until the 75:02 mark when Jaclyn Metz would drill Katie Michkiosky’s pass in from 17 yards out from the left side.
 
Just four minutes later, Nadine Huff’s centering pass to Winter Wirkkala would set Wirkkala up for a 17 yard shot from the middle of the field for the game winner.
 
Northwest U was outshot by SOU 9-4 in the first half, but turned the tables in the second half with a 10-1 margin as the Eagle defense would hold SOU scoreless. Jubilee Zevenbergen took five shots for NU, two shots on goal.  Wirkkala had two shots, two shots on goal with one score while goalkeeper Kat Sanchez made seven saves, six in the first half to keep things close.
 
Kelsey Randall led Southern Oregon (7-6, 4-3 CCC) with three shots, one shot on goal. Hannah Ceciliani took the loss in goal for the Raiders making seven saves for the game.
 
“We finally put things together in the second half,” said Josimar Evangelista, filling in for head coach Bryan Chud. “Our patience and persistence paid off and our ladies never gave up and continued to battle creating opportunities which led to the victory.”
