EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s soccer team pushed the tenth-ranked Rocky Mountain College hard on Saturday night, but it was the visitors who came away victorious, winning 2-1.

NCU (4-6-2, 4-3-2 CCC) rode the strength of their defense for much of the match, but the Battlin’ Bears lived up to their name, persisting to score the winning goal in the 85th minute of play to seal their eighth victory in as many games.

Victor Irechukwu put the Beacons on the board first in the 17th minute, ripping a shot in the box past the keeper. Zephaniah Hollins set up the score with a leading pass down the left side, notching his first assist of the season.

Rocky Mountain came on strong after intermission. Marco Kummerle (pictured) tied the score in the 61st minute, then provided the assist on the winning goal scored by Jace Beck. Rocky maintained a 15-11 shot advantage, forcing six on goal in the victory.

Both teams are back in CCC action on Friday October 20th. Northwest Christian welcomes Walla Walla, while RMC hosts Warner Pacific. Both matches are slated for 3 p.m. starts local time.
