EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women’s basketball team put a few new records on the board on Saturday as they opened up the 2017-2018 season with a 103-17 victory over Northwest Indian College.

After allowing just three points in the second quarter to set a new record, the Beacons made it an unbreakable record in the third quarter when they allowed zero points, forcing the Eagles into 15 turnovers and just four shot attempts.

The 17 points allowed is also the fewest for a full game in school history and the 85-point margin of victory put the previous record of 66 well in the rear-view mirror.

It wasn’t all perfection for the Beacons, however, as they shot just 3-for-21 from three-point range. The shot 56% overall from the field, out-rebounded the Eagles 44-19 and collected 26 steals, 23 assists, and five blocks.

It was a well-rounded team effort as six players made it to double-figures including four starters. Leading the way were newcomers Anamaria Virjoghe and Morgan McKinney (pictured) with 15 points apiece. Virjoghe was 6-for-8 from the field while McKinney was a perfect 7-for-7.

Conner Borigo came off the bench to score 12 points while leading the team with six rebounds and Dani Baker added 11 points, four steals and two blocks. Niki Duncan and Janae Turner each scored ten.

The Eagles were led by Tamar Yuzzie, scoring 7 points and two steals. Alaina Butler did not score but held the team lead with five rebounds.

NCU (1-0) will be back on the court next Sunday, October 22 for the alumni game at 2 pm. Then the team will hit the road for Northern California, beginning with a clash against Simpson University on Halloween.
