BROOKS, Ore. – In a final tuneup before the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships in three weeks, the Multnomah University Lions came in seventh out of nine teams in the Wes Cook / George Fox University Classic women's 5K race Saturday morning here at Willamette Mission State Park.

Leah Norquist led Multnomah for the fourth time in as many races this fall by finishing 33rd out of 90 runners with a time of 20:08.2.  Second for the Lions was Natasha Jensen, who was 54th in 21:05.7. Also scoring for the Lions were Ashley Hauger (57th, 21:21.5), Moriah Paterson (64th, 21:46.8), and Lucia Morud (70th, 22:31.8).

Multnomah earned 195 points in the race, with team honors going to Corban University with 27 points.  Northwest Christian was second with 55 points.  Individual honors went to unattached Sophia Noto, who ran an 18:14.4, while Amy Murphy of Corban was second at 18:19.1.

Quoting Coach Corey Mehl:  "The women, even though missing senior captain Sarah Carrier, managed to finish seventh as our other senior captain, Leah (Norquist), led the charge.  Moriah (Paterson) set an all-time personal best, and Lucia (Morud) also achieved a lifetime best.  The ladies have been a mixture of injuries and/or sickness the past two weeks following Willamette, so I'm looking forward to everyone getting healthy in the final stretch."

Next: Multnomah will compete in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships at Lane Farms in La Grande, Ore.,  on Saturday, Nov. 4.  The men's race is set for 11:00 a.m., followed by the women's championship at 12:00 noon.
