SOU makes short work of William Jessup

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon wasted no time powering through William Jessup in a 25-7, 25-19, 25-12 non-conference win Monday night at Mountain Avenue Gym.
The Raiders (8-6 overall) used 13 blocks, their highest total in a three-set match in two years, to finish off the Warriors (15-9) in 64 minutes and hold them to an attacking average of negative-.103.
Freshman middle
Elliott Cook had seven kills on a .462 clip to go with a team-high six blocks,
Ashlyn Flynn picked up 15 digs,
Natalie James distributed 18 assists and
Emma Ryan had three service aces to highlight a balanced effort.
SOU trailed 2-1 in the first set and 1-0 in the second, but never at any other point.
Malie Rube served the Raiders to a seven-point run in the first set and Ryan to nine unanswered in the third, tallying all three of her aces in the rally.
The Raiders also got seven kills on 15 attacks from
Dani Johnson, six kills from
Taylor Ristvedt, and five kills and five digs from
Haleigh Wagman. Collectively, they hit .287.
Sydney Molander's six kills led the Warriors, who produced just 22 kills compared to 32 attacking errors.
SOU will resume Cascade Collegiate Conference play this weekend, working on its 5-4 record at eighth-ranked College of Idaho and 12th-ranked Eastern Oregon.
