WP Men Move to 2-0, defeat Vancouver Island 90-73
PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific defeated Vancouver Island for the second time in as many days, this time by the score of 90-73 at Bart Valentine Court.
The visiting Mariners were determined to head back to Canada with a win, and looked like they might do it after trailing by just one point (39-38) at halftime. Usama Zaid proceeded to score eight straight points to start period two, and gave his squad a 46-42 lead with 17:04 left to play.
The host Knights fought back, and reclaimed the lead (49-48) thanks to a long three pointer from freshman
Julian Downey. WPC slowly extended their advantage behind 12 points from
Montel Shirley and 11 from
Collin Malcolm.
Malcolm finished with 20 points to lead the Knights, while
Xavier Cannefax added 16 points and a career best 13 assists.
Zaid led all scorers with 32 points for VIU.
