EOU Men’s Wrestling Goes 3-0 at the Lassen CC Duals
SUSANVILLE, Calif. – The men's wrestling team opened the 2017-18 season traveling down to Northern California to compete at the Lassen CC Duals finishing 3-0 with victories over Grays Harbor C.C., Umpqua C.C., and Sac City College on Saturday.
"As a team, we went 3-0. We started off slow and not being aggressive enough. Our second and third duals we picked it up and took more attacks," said head coach
Dustyn Azure. "We need to continue to progress, by finishing when we get our attacks. This week we'll continue to work on being more physical, creating more opportunities to score, and finishing when we get to the legs.
The Mounties defeated Grays Harbor 29-18, Sac City 32-13, and the Riverhawks 41-10. Nine wrestlers represented the Blue and Gold with five grapplers winning all of their matches.
Junior
Mhar Caballa, (125-lbs) who ranks ninth in the nation got off to a strong start for the year defeating all his opponents. Caballa won by pin fall, a 7-6 decision, followed by a forfeit victory over Umpqua.
Likewise, sophomore
Blake Mcnall (133-lbs) went on to win all three of his matches. Mcnall pinned his first opponent, won by forfeit against Umpqua, and then won by a 7-6 decision over the Panthers in his final match.
Top-20 ranked in the NAIA Poll, junior
Drake Randall in the 157 weight class (No. 11) and senior No. 9
Eric Fan (197-lbs), continued to hold their standings as both men went on to join Caballa and Mcnall with undefeated days. Randall and Fan separated themselves from the rest of the team to claim three victories by fall.
Sophomore
Sage Delong (285-lbs) earned himself three wins at the Lassen Duals. The Vale, Ore., native triumphed by pin fall, a close 3-1 decision, and a 16-1 technical fall.
Also winning twice for the Blue and Gold was freshman
Jared Brant (141-lbs). The newcomer went on to secure a decision with a score of 5-2 in his first career match, a win by forfeit vs. the Riverhawks, before falling by a 5-2 decision to the Chokers.
Freshman
Keegan Dorsey (184) had a pin fall victory against the Riverhawks before dropping his last pair of matches to Sac City College and Umpqua.
