Yotes Strong Second Half and Golden Goal Defeats NU
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Carter Perry’s golden goal in overtime capped off a strong second half comeback as the College of Idaho defeated Northwest University, 3-2, on a 65 degree fall afternoon. The Yotes, down 2-1 at the half, came back strong in the second half scoring a goal to tie the game to send it into overtime.
For Northwest U, their early lead began at 5:15 into the game when Lucas Alves took Branson Corwin’s pass to right foot the ball into the left corner of the net from 20 yards out. In the 17th minute it would be a rocket by Chris Iacolucci from 18 yards out on the left side off an assist by Trent Siedenburg, giving NU the 2-0 lead.
The Yotes would keep pressing and would swing momentum in their favor and it would pay off in the 42nd minute when Daniel Camargo's shot from 8 yards out center would find the back of the net. Ben Bechor earned the assist.
In the second half, while the College of Idaho defense was holding the Eagles scoreless, Ben Bechor would then be on the scoring end when he beat his defender up the middle and then beat the NU goalkeeper on a 1-on-1 attack scoring from 15 yards out.
The game would end in a 2-2 tie and would go into overtime. It would take the Yotes 3:03 into the period and Bekir Cinac would lay a through ball up the middle to Perry Carter who would beat Eagle goalkeeper, Daniel Christenson, 1-v-1 and score from 15 yards out from the center of the field.
Northwest U (9-6-1, 7-4-1 CCC) held the edge on shots, 20-11, with Chris Iacolucci taking 6 of them, 3 on goal with the single score. Lucas Alves took 5 shots, 2 shots on goal with the one score. Daniel Christenson made 2 saves in goal for the Eagles.
Grant Billings earned the win in goal for the College of Idaho (9-7, 6-6 CCC) making 6 saves, 5 of them coming in the first half. Ben Bechor took 3 shots for the Yotes, 3 on goal and the game tying goal. Perry Carter took 3 shots and scored the golden goal.
