LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Eastern Oregon University’s women’s soccer team has been named the “Team of the Week” for October 23-29, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced.

With a pair of shutout victories in front of their home crowd, the Eastern Oregon women’s soccer team made history earning their first ever CCC regular season title along with the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

On Friday the Mountaineers defeated Northwest Christian University 2-0. While the first half was quiet it was not until the 59th minute when forward Cailin Koupal scored after a free kick. In the 87th minute, Taylor Boyer put the match out of reach with another EOU score.

Against Corban, who had been on a four game winning streak, Eastern would score the decisive goal in the 41st minute off the foot of senior Anna Roslander. Goalkeeper Cydni Cottrell was stellar in the net withstanding several Warrior shots to secure her ninth shutout of the season.

By earning the No. 1 seed the Mountaineers also earned the first of two automatic qualifications the conference has to the NAIA National Tournament. This guarantees the opportunity to play in an opening round game on November 18th.

Before the National Tournament however, Eastern (10-3-2, 9-1-1 CCC) will take on the University of Providence in the quarterfinals of the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank. The contest will be Friday November 3 at 5 p.m. in Springfield, Oregon.
