Southern Oregon University Earns First Seed in 2017 Men’s Soccer Championships Presented by U.S. Bank.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – A dramatic goal with only four seconds remaining in overtime clinched a share of the regular season title and the top seed in the 2017 CCC men’s Soccer Championship presented by U.S. Bank for the Southern Oregon University men’s soccer team. The Raiders share the title with Co-Champion Rocky Mountain College but earned the top seed as a result of their 2-0 victory over the Battlin’ Bears the opening weekend of CCC play in September.

Southern finished the year 11-6-1 overall, and 11-1-1 in conference. Along with the regular season championship, the Raiders will receive the first of two automatic qualifiers to the NAIA National Tournament.
 
Rocky Mountain College, ranked No. 6 in the country earned the second seed in the conference tournament, finishing the 2017 campaign 15-1-1 overall and 11-1-1 in the CCC. Rounding out the top four of the seeding are No. 11 Corban University (14-1-3, 10-1-2 CCC) and Northwest Christian (7-7-2, 7-4-2 CCC).
 
Oregon Tech earned the fifth seed followed by Northwest University at sixth and The Evergreen State College in seventh. Even though OIT, NU and TESC each finished the regular season with 22 points, the comparison of head-to-head record resulted in the tiebreaker and order of fourth through sixth.
 
The College of Idaho earned the eighth and final spot in the tournament.
 
The winner of the tournament will earn the second automatic qualifier to the NAIA Championships that begin with Opening Rounds on Nov. 18. In the event the number one seed Southern Oregon is also the tournament champion the second AQ will go to the runner-up.
 
Tournament festivities will begin with a student athlete banquet on Nov. 2 where All-Conference Awards will be announced. Games will get underway the following morning on Nov. 3. The tournament will again be held at Willamalane Sports Complex in Springfield, Ore. and hosted by Northwest Christian University.
 
Sunday Nov. 5 is an off day from competition but remaining teams will participate in a clinic with Eugene/Springfield Special Olympic athletes. This is the third year of the popular event.
