Miranda Halverson lhad a match-high 11 kills and hit .524 as Multnomah opened a four-game home stand with a 3-0 win over Walla Walla Saturday night.
MULTNOMAH 3, WALLA WALLA 0: Lions Bite Wolves to Start Season-Ending Home Stand
PORTLAND, Ore. – Starting their season-ending four-game home stand in fine fashion, the Multnomah University Lions hit .359 as a team and swept the Walla Walla University Wolves 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-12) in a Cascade Collegiate Conference women's volleyball match Saturday night here at Lytle Gym.
The Lions trailed only twice all evening, falling behind 1-0 at the start of the first and second sets. There were three ties early in the first set, but a
Miranda Halverson kill broke the final tie of 5-5 and sent the Lions off on a 12-5 run to give them an insurmountable 17-10 lead. The second set was also knotted at 5-5 when a
Maile Kam kill put Multnomah ahead for good, and the Lions gradually extended the lead by posting their best hitting set of the match, making 15 kills with only two errors for a .409 mark.
Multnomah led from start to finish in the third set after opening with a 3-0 run on a Walla Walla attack error, a kill by
Patty Batoon, and a block by Batoon and
Hannah Snyder. The Lions held the Wolves to their worst hitting set of the night, a mere .042 percentage with only six kills and five errors. A spike by
Sydney Amundsen was the final nail in the Wolves' coffin.
--- By the Numbers: Halverson led all attackers with 11 kills for the Lions while making no errors and hitting .524 for the match. Batoon was next with seven kills. Multnomah had 41 kills and only eight errors in 92 attempts.
Kayla Keane handed out 17 assists and
Marissa Rhodes 12. Keane also served three aces.
Sabrina DeJesus-Bair posted 14 digs, and Amundsen and Batoon had two block assists each.
Lauren Barlow paced the Wolves with 10 kills, while Krista Schafer had 10 assists. Lauren Bosler made eight digs, and Morgan Doyle posted one block assist and one solo block.
Multnomah is now 8-18 on the season and 3-14 in the CCC. Walla Walla suffered its 19
th straight loss, falling to 1-22 overall and 0-17 in the conference.
