No. 14 Mountaineers Dominate in Sweep of SOU for Homecoming

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Less than 24 hours after a grueling five-set victory over Oregon Tech, the No. 14 Eastern Oregon volleyball team showed no signs of fatigue as they swept Southern Oregon convincingly (25-15, 25-12, 25-19) in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Saturday afternoon for Homecoming in Quinn Coliseum.
 
The Mountaineers (15-5, 9-2 CCC) used a dominant offensive attack to easily take down their rivals, hitting a combined .365 for the match. Additionally, EOU held Southern Oregon to just .050 from the floor, forcing 23 Raider errors to 28 kills.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Megan Bunn had an impressive match hitting, leading the team with 11 kills and a .476 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Amanda Miller finished with nine kills while senior right-side hitter Isabelle Statkus posted eight kills and a .500 hitting percentage.
 
With her nine kills, Miller inched herself to within one kill of tying the all-time program career record. She currently sits at 1,260, one behind Grace Deboodt (2006-09), who recorded 1,261 career kills.
 
Senior middle hitter Madisen Garlie, who continues to lead the NAIA in total blocks and block assists, added to her totals with six block assists. Statkus joined the block party with four assists on the afternoon.
 
Freshman setter Madison Pilon posted 19 assists to lead EOU, followed by fellow freshman Abby Smith with 13. On the defensive end, freshmen Kiley McMurtrey and Aspen Christiansen had eight digs, while senior Malia Mills finished with seven.
 
On the Raiders’ side, Taylor Ristvedt led all players with 12 digs, hitting a strong .345 from the floor. Natalie James dished out 16 assists for the visiting Raiders.
 
The win over Southern Oregon gives EOU a 13-12 record against the Raiders under head coach Kaki McLean Morehead. The Mounties have won the last seven-straight matches, which includes four-straight sweeps.
 
The No. 14-ranked Mountaineers are back on the road for two matches next weekend, visiting Warner Pacific on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by Multnomah on Saturday at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played in Portland, Oregon.
