ASHLAND – Natalie Mitchell and Taylor Boyer scored a goal apiece in each half as Eastern Oregon stayed unbeaten in Cascade Conference play with a 4-0 romp over Southern Oregon on Friday evening at Raider Stadium.
Between the two of them, Mitchell and Boyer gave the red-hot Mountaineers (6-2-1 overall, 5-0 CCC) the highest goal total for a Raider opponent in Ashland since 2007.
Mitchell, who entered the night with four goals to her name, put the momentum on EOU's side in the eighth minute when she took a pass from Boyer in the center of the box, turned around a darted a 10-yard shot out of keeper
Hannah Ceciliani's reach. In the 33rd, Camie Edgington led Boyer with a pass gathered from 25 yards deep before she exploded past the defense and converted a one-on-one opportunity.
Boyer's next goal, in the 59th minute, was the most impressive of the night: With plenty of space from 28 yards out, she opted to shoot from the right side and stuck it just inside the right post. Less than two minutes later, Mitchell completed the onslaught after being set up by Chelsey Nicol.
The loss was the Raiders' most lopsided against an NAIA opponent in eight years. They dropped to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in the CCC.
The teams were even in the shots category, but the Mountaineers placed eight on goal to SOU's three.
Kelsey Randall accounted for two of those for the Raiders.
SOU is back in action at Raider Stadium at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against Warner Pacific.
