Raiders Too Much For Wolves
Paul Starkebaum, Sports Information Director
College Place, Wash. –Despite failing to take a set off the Raiders today the Wolves played most of the match point for point with Southern Oregon. However, the Raiders seemed to come up big at the end of each set as they swept the Wolves in Sunday afternoon's match.
A kill from Caldora Blackburn tied the opening set up 11 to 11, topping off a run by the Wolves who had gotten down early. The Raiders Ashlyn Flynn answered right back with a kill of her own and put the Raiders back on top. Down the stretch, Southern Oregon used a balanced attack with six different players getting kills over the last 14 points. The Wolves tied the match up again at 19-19 after a kill from Erika Dudar, but Southern Oregon rattled off six straight points and put the Wolves away with a 25-19 victory.
Walla Walla took a 15-10 early lead in the second set after three straight errors by Southern Oregon. Unfortunately for the Wolves, the Raiders came right back and tied the match up 19-19. An eight-point run to end the set gave Southern Oregon a 25-19 victory and put them up 2-0 for the match.
The third set was a tough one for both teams, with the Raiders attacking at a .079 rate and The Wolves struggling even more with a -.030 attack percentage. After going up 3-0 early, Walla Walla began to struggle and the two teams exchanged points back and forth. The tipping point in the match was back-to-back aces from Emma Ryan that put the Raiders up 15-11. Southern Oregon never looked back from there. Elliot Cook nailed a kill down the middle for the final point of the match as the Raiders took the set 25-20 and the match in a 3-0 sweep.
