LA GRANDE, Ore. – The EOU men’s basketball team shot a season-high 60.3-percent clip from the floor Saturday night as the squad routed Northwest Indian College in the Mounties’ home opener in Quinn Coliseum.
Sophomore guard Brock Johnson dropped a career-high 17 points, freshman guard Jordan May added 15 points and junior forward Peter Eke and sophomore guard Max McCullough added 13 points apiece.
NWIC was led by Jalon Pepper who scored a game-high 20 points, while Kody Takushi chipped in 16 points and Kacy Green added 13 points.
EOU (5-0) raced out to an early 7-0 lead after a steal and a bucket by senior guard/forward Blake O’Donnell. From there on, the Mountaineers kept their foot on the gas pedal as the half was highlighted by 12 points from Johnson. May was right behind Johnson, tallying 11 himself in the first stanza, to help the Blue and Gold head into the intermission up 54-33.
In the second stanza, the Mounties connected on a 58-percent clip (25-for-43), going 5-for-10 from deep to outscore the Eagles, 59-41. EOU will play its third and final game against NWIC tomorrow at 1 pm in Quinn Coliseum.
