No. 7 EOU Drops First Contest vs. Montana Tech 71-67

LEWISTON, Idaho. – The No. 7 Eastern Oregon women’s basketball lost its first game of the 2017-18 season in a close game, 71-67, against Montana Western at the Twin Rivers Classic on Saturday night.
 
The Mountaineers (4-1) had a close 51-50 lead heading to the fourth quarter, but Montana Tech put up 21 points in the final 10 minutes to grab the victory.
 
EOU shot just over 41 percent from the field, but allowed the Orediggers to shoot 43.33 percent and 42.11 percent from behind the arc.
 
Senior forward Stormee Van Belle put up 21 points to lead the Mounties, shooting 7-for-12 from the field. Junior guard Maya Ah You-Dias also scored 20 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Payton Parrish added nine points.
 
Montana Tech capitalized on their offensive rebounds, scoring 18 second chance points to EOU’s nine. They also got 36 points off their bench.
 
The Mounties are at home for the first time in the regular season, hosting Whitman on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Quinn Coliseum.
