Faith Kraatz scored 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting as Multnomah fell 68-51 to Cal Maritime in the Antelope Valley Classic Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, Calif.
CAL MARITIME 68, MULTNOMAH 51: 2nd-Half Shooting Slump Sinks Lions vs. Keelhaulers
LANCASTER, Calif. – After their best two shooting quarters of the season left them down by only five points at the half, the Multnomah University Lions went into an offensive slump in the second half and fell 68-51 to the California State University Maritime Keelhaulers in the Antelope Valley Women's Basketball Classic Saturday afternoon here at the UAV Pioneer Event Center.
Multnomah and Cal Maritime were tied at the end of the first quarter 17-17 and the Lions trailed 38-33 at the break after connecting on 11 of 25 field goals (.440) over the first 20 minutes. However, they managed only eight of 27 (.296) in the second half as the Keelhaulers pulled away. A 17-7 advantage in the third quarter gave Maritime a 55-40 lead heading into the final period, and the Lions could not catch up.
--- By the Numbers: Bethany George led the Lions with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting and Faith Kraatz added 10 on 5-of-8 from the floor. Kraatz also had a team-high six rebounds. Valerie Wakefield handed out five assists, and Tiara Chinn had a pair of steals.
Samantha James led the Keelhaulers with 16 points, 13 boards and six assists, while Alisia Spearman added 14 points and Nancy Clark 10. Maritime shot .481 (25-52) from the field, including 9-of-16 (.563) from three-point range, and held a 34-26 rebound advantage.
Multnomah fell to 0-5 on the season while Cal State Maritime improved to 5-3.
