Knights Pick Up First Win of Season, Edge Boxers 64-60
PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific chalked up their first win of the 2017-18 season with a 64-60 win over Pacific (Ore.) tonight at Bart Valentine Court.
Bailey Allen scored 13 points to lead three Knights (1-4) in double figure scoring to hand the visiting Boxers the loss in their season opening contest.
The game started with Pacific as the aggressor, and the Boxers led 22-11 after the first quarter. The tables turned in the 2nd period, with the Knights outscoring Pacific 18-9 as Grace Prom shook off a slow start to toss in seven points in the quarter. Emily Peters canned a three pointer late in the half to draw WP within 31-29.
WPC carried that momentum into the second half, scoring the first five points to take their first lead of the game (34-31). The teams then exchanged baskets for a few minutes until an Allen layup gave the Knights the lead for good.
The advantage for Warner Pacific reached as many as 11 points, but the Boxers continued to battle. A 7-0 run spanning the end of the 3rd to the start of the 4th quarter cut the gap to four points (55-51). Courtney Carolan kept Pacific in the game with 12 second half counters.
Key baskets from Allen and Katelyn Rossback gave WP some breathing room, but successful free throws from Carolan and Carly Kakuda made the score 62-60 with seven seconds to play. Moments later, Allen salted the game away with two free throws of her own.
Allen finished with 13 points and six assists to pace WPC. Grace Prom and Michaela Pin added 10 points each. Carolan ended with a game high 20 points to lead the Boxers.
