EOU Men’s Hoops Cruises to 22-Point Victory at New Hope Christian
EUGENE, Ore. – The EOU men’s basketball team (7-0) were led by sophomore Max McCullough and freshman Jordan May who scored 19 points apiece to lead the Blue and Gold to its first official road victory Friday night.
Senior guard Brennan Pope recorded his first double-double of the season dropping 12 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard/forward Blake O’Donnell scored 14 points to go along with eight boards.
New Hope Christian was led by Jaylen Rose with 17 points, DeMario Harris added 16 points and Isiah Large chipped in 13 points and dished out six assists.
After nearly 10 minutes of play in the first half, EOU found itself leading by three, 11-8, after a bucket from junior forward Peter Eke. The scoreboard was kept tight as the Mounties built a lead as large as eight, before the Deacons stormed back with a 9-2 spurt with just over two minutes in the first stanza to close the half only trailing by one, 29-28.
Midway through the second half senior forward Austin Winegar’s jumper gave EOU a 15-point lead, 60-45, as the Mountaineers made 70 percent (23-for-34) of their shots from the field in the second half. They matched that going 5-for-10 from beyond the arc, building an advantage as large as 24, to seal the road triumph.
