SOU RALLIES FOR 27-18 DEFEAT OF EASTERN OREGON
LA GRANDE – The Southern Oregon men's wrestling team scored bonus points in the last four matches of the night to erase a 12-point deficit and take a 27-18 Cascade Conference dual victory from Eastern Oregon on Friday at Quinn Coliseum.
After Mountaineers 165-pounder Jacob Dupuis won by fall over
Cody Stahl to put his team up 18-6, SOU's
C.J. McKinnis(174) sparked the rally with a pin of Erik Wilson in 1:57 that cut the deficit in half.
Raider 184-pounder
Max Hane kept the rally going by working a 16-1 technical fall that ended moments into the third round. SOU then took the lead for the first time, 21-18, thanks to
Tanner Fischer's 8-0 major decision over Eric Fan at 197, and heavyweight
Zane Wardwell clinched the victory by pinning Taben Mansarey in 3:52.
The 11th-ranked Raiders evened their dual record at 1-1 and went to 3-0 against their in-state rivals since EOU reinstated its wrestling program last season, keeping control of the vaunted Wagontire Trophy.
Devin Poppen (141) and
Andrew Ramirez (149) scored SOU's other points with wins by decision. A forfeit at 133 pounds accounted for some of their early issues.
Mhar Caballa (125) and Drake Randall (157) won decisions for EOU.
The Raiders will compete Sunday at the Spokane Open, which begins at 9 a.m.
