EUGENE, Ore. – The EOU men’s basketball team (8-0) maintained its perfect mark on the year shooting 51.8 percent from the floor Saturday night as the squad dominated in the 102-76 triumph over New Hope Christian.
The Mountaineers were led by a couple of career-highs on the night. Senior guard Cole Ashby tallied 22 points (6-for-9 from beyond the arc), while junior guard transfer Paulo Hugo netted 20 points to go along with four assists. Senior guard/forward Blake O’Donnell dropped 17 points and dished out six assists and freshman Jordan May came off the bench to chip in 16 points, snagged eight boards in 19 minutes of action.
For the Deacons, DeMario Harris led a quintet of players in double-figures scoring with a game-high 23 points and six rebounds.
With under 14 minutes left in the first period, the Mounties held a 21-5 advantage over the Deacons after a trey from Ashby fell through. Over the next seven minutes and change, EOU did not let NHC cross the 15-point mark and closed out the half, up by 22, 56-34.
In the second period, the Blue and Gold kept the offense rolling going 16-for-32 (50-percent) from the floor and built a lead as large as 39 points to pick up its eight win of the year.
