Eagles Second Half Comeback Downs Lutes
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University Eagles came back from a four point half time deficit to outscore Pacific Lutheran by 19 in the second half for an 81-66 non-league victory tonight.
Senior Joe Stack sparked the Eagle comeback hitting three straight 3-pointers to bring NU back from a 12 point deficit with 16:08 left in the game. A 10-2 NU run would give the Eagles a 57-49 lead at the 10:42 mark. Justice
Martion's lay-up with 5:45 left in the game would put NU up 71-57 as Northwest U would go on to post their sixth win of the season.
PLU had taken a 34-30 halftime lead as they executed their offense and shot 47% for the period. They would bump their lead to twelve, 47-35, outscoring the Eagles 13-5 to open the second half. Enter Joe Stack at the 16:42 mark and he would hit his first 3-pointer at 15:19, followed by his second at 14:49 and his third at 14:08, to make it a 47-46 game.
Martion shot 11 of 15 shot for 25 points for Northwest U (6-4) while Tanner Davis added 12 points. Jasdeep Singh scored 11 points for the Eagles who shot 59% for the game and 48% from beyond the 3-point line.
PLU (1-1) was led by Dylan Foreman's 16 points. Sean McLaughlin scored 12 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. PLU shot 42% for the game (27-64).
"We grew up a lot tonight as a team," said Jeff Drinkwine, NU coach. "We made some defensive adjustments in the second half which the guys bought into and Joe Stack gave us a huge lift coming off the bench hitting three straight 3-pointers for his own 9-0 run. We talk about being prepared for moment the team needs you and Joe was definitely ready to help the team. This holiday break will give us some time to recover from injuries and be ready for league play when we return."
