Led again by tight defense and outside shooting, Rocky Mountain College defeated the Wolves by a score of 66 to 24

A deep three pointer by Kiana Corpus closed out the first quarter with the Battlin’ Bears up 20-4.  Three consecutive three pointers early in the second quarter by Rocky Mountain’s Alexi Smith extended the lead to thirty points as Walla Walla struggled to the tune of 12% shooting in the first half.

Shooting from deep was once again the biggest discrepancy, with the Battlin’ Bears a +27 from behind the arc, in the first half alone. This continued throughout the game as Rocky Moutain finished with eleven made three’s while the Wolves hit just one.

The Battlin’ Bears used consistent scoring in the first half, with 20 in each of the first two quarters, to build their lead. Then they relied on their suffocating defense to grow it. Extended scoring droughts were the bane of the Wolves, as they didn’t record a double figure scoring quarter until the fourth. They finished with 17 turnovers and shot just 15% for the game.

The Battlin’ Bears were led by three players in double figures. Olivia James had ten, while Brooke Jones and Alexi Smith (4-6 3PT) had twelve, apiece. The Wolves were led by Carolina Montes’ six points while Michaela Garcia, Emily Downs, and Alyssa Blankenship all contributed six rebounds.

Walla Walla opens Cascade Conference play next Saturday night at home with a 6:00 PM tip against Corban College.  The following day will feature another matchup with Corban, at 1:00 PM.
