EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s soccer team made the most of their first ever post-season game on Friday afternoon, knocking off Oregon Tech 2-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament.
The No. 4 seeded Beacons prevailed behind a goal in each half including the game-winning strike by Blake Doran in the 17th minute. The sophomore forward took a pass from Zephaniah Hollins and took one touch before a tap into the right corner of the net for the score.
NCU added a penalty kick with just over a minute to go. Victor Irechukwu had been fouled by the OIT keeper on a breakaway in the box, resulting in an attempt for Sanad Elghanai who fired it home for the 2-0 margin.
Yayo Olvera collected his eighth clean sheet of the season, collecting three saves on three shots on goal from the No. 5 seeded Owls.
With the win the Beacons advance to Saturday’s semifinals where they will take on No. 1 seed Southern Oregon University at 4:00 pm.
