Tournament Field Announced for 2017 Volleyball Championships
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The qualifiers have been finalized for the 2017 Cascade Collegiate Conference Volleyball Championships presented by U.S. Bank. Quarterfinals will get underway on November 7 with winners advancing to the final site.
Claiming the number one seed and their first ever CCC regular season championship are the Corban University Warriors. Corban, ranked No. 10, finished the regular season with a mark of (22-7, 17-3 CCC) earned a first round bye and the right to host the final site where the four remaining teams will battle it out for a tournament crown. Corban also earned the first of two automatic qualifications to the NAIA National Tournament.
The College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon University and Northwest University completed conference play with identical 15-5 records. In comparing head to head results among the three teams CI emerged in front with a 3-1 record followed by EOU, 2-2 and NU, 1-3.
By virtue of the tiebreaker the Yotes (23-5, 15-5 CCC) claimed the second seed and a bye into the semifinals along with Corban. CI is ranked No. 14.
Defending tournament champs Eastern Oregon are seeded third. The No. 13 Mountaineers (21-8, 15-5) will host No. 6 seed Northwest Christian University (16-9, 11-9 CCC) in one quarterfinal match. Eastern defeated the Beacons in both meetings this season.
No. 21 ranked Northwest University holds down the fourth seed. The Eagles (21-7, 15-5 CCC) will host number 5 seed Southern Oregon University (15-10, 12-8 CCC) in the other quarterfinal matchup. NU won both regular season matchups.
The winner of the tournament will earn the second automatic qualifier to the NAIA Championships that begin with Opening Rounds on Nov. 18. In the event that number one seed Corban is also the tournament champion the second AQ will go to the runner-up.
