No. 3 Providence Defeats EOU (RV) 38-9
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon men's wrestling team fell to No. 3 Providence at Quinn Coliseum on Saturday in the team's home opener.
The Mountaineers (3-1) hastily began the first three matches of the night with decision victories over No. 3-ranked University of Providence, who won at Columbia Falls on Thursday night against North Idaho (29-9).
Starting at 125 against UP, No. 9 Mhar Caballa came out on top with a 7-4 decision over Dorian Sapian.
Blake McNall took on Eli Walston in the 133-pound match that was arguably the highlight of the night for both teams. McNall and Walston were tied at 13-13 heading into the first overtime and needed a double sudden-victory to claim the winner. A takedown was able to give Mcnall the 17-15 decision to give EOU a 6-0 lead.
Freshman A.J. Rockwell was up next at 141 against Jarren Komac. Rockwell took advantage of the whole match to give his team three more points and earn a 10-3 decision to claim his first collegiate victory at home.
After winning the first three matches, UP would go on to walk off with five pin falls, a 16-1 technical fall, and an 11-5 decision to extend their record o 2-0.
On Nov. 9, the Blue and Gold travel down to Corvallis to go up against the Beavers. EOU's next home dual is Nov. 17 against Southern Oregon starting at 7 p.m.
