Van Belle’s Career-High 22 Points Leads EOU to 3-0 Start 11/6/2017 10:54:09 PM VALLEJO, Calif. – Senior forward Stormee Van Belle scored a career-high as a Mountaineer of 22 points with 13 rebounds, leading the No. 7-ranked Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team to a 81-56 victory over Cal State Maritime on the road on Monday night. With the victory, the Mountaineers advanced to 3-0 on the young season with all three wins coming on a four-day California road trip. Van Belle needed just 20 minutes on the floor to post her second double-double of the season and set a career-high of 22 points as a Mountie while tying her career-best of 13 boards. The senior went 8-for-10 shooting from the floor and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Of Van Belle’s 13 rebounds, eight were on the offensive glass as she helped lead EOU to 22 second-chance points. The Mountaineers shot 43.1 percent from the field as senior forward Mariah Swanson posted 14 points and junior guard Maya Ah You-Dias put up 12. Ah You-Dias finished with double-digit points for the third-straight contest to begin the year. Senior guard Reece Bauer helped out across the board with 10 rebounds, six points and a team-high six assists. Fellow senior guard Payton Parrish had nine points with eight rebounds in 27 minutes played. The Blue and Gold scored the opening nine points of the game and never saw the score tied as they led 25-12 at the end of the first quarter. The defense limited CSU Maritime to 32.8 percent shooting while outrebounding the Keelhaulers 60-24. The Mounties shot 23.8 percent from behind the arc (5-for-21), but helped themselves on the charity stripe finishing 14-for-16, an 87.5 percent clip. EOU is back on the road on Nov. 10 and 11 at the Twin Rivers Classic in Lewiston, Idaho.
