Raiders' Balanced Attack Stops Geoducks
Ryan Quigley scored 19 points, Jaurence Chisholm added 16 points and nine rebounds and Pat Ling contributed 10 assists on Saturday night but it wasn't enough to keep The Evergreen State College from dropping a 73-60 Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball decision to visiting Southern Oregon inside Costantino Recreation Center.
Conor Carroll led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points as the Raiders (8-4 overall, 3-1 CCC) beat Evergreen (1-10, 0-4) for the 13th straight time. Adding double-figure scoring for the visitors were Jordan Hunter and Tristen Holmes with 13 and Tate Hoffman with 12. Holmes added seven assists and Hoffman finished with eight rebounds.
The Raiders built an eight-point lead at 17-9 about six minutes into the game and stretched their advantage to 26-16 on a layin by Jordan Hunt with 8:44 left in the first period.
Evergreen responded by scoring nine unanswered points, capped by a Dezmond Wilson jumper, to cut its deficit to a single point at the 4:12 mark. Southern Oregon came right back at the home team with a 12-2 run, highlighted by consecutive steals by Kenny Meyer, and it went into the half with a 38-29 lead.
The Raiders added to their lead in the second half, taking their largest advantage at 54-35 on Hoffman's fast break layin with 14:15 to play. The Geoducks got within nine points on three separate occasions but never closer.
Southern Oregon shot 45 percent (26-for-58) from the field and 40 percent (8-for-20) from three-point range. More importantly, the team was perfect on all 13 of its free throw attempts while also turning the ball over just nine times.
The Geoducks shot 44 percent (27-for-61) overall and enjoyed a 36-32 margin on the boards.
Evergreen returns to action on Tuesday when it plays Saint Martin's in Lacey, that followed by a Dec. 22 home contest against Portland Bible. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
