No. 8 EOU Stays Hot with Season-Best 47-Point Victory over C of I 12/20/2017 10:59:19 PM LA GRANDE, Ore. – With a season-high 87 points, the No. 8 Eastern Oregon women’s basketball team dominated the College of Idaho for its largest margin of victory in an 87-40 win Wednesday night in Cascade Collegiate Conference play at Quinn Coliseum. The Mountaineers (11-2, 5-0 CCC) never trailed in the game and scored the first basket just 10 seconds in on a Jessica Sexson three pointer. Leading 8-6, the Mounties went on an 18-point run to take a commanding 26-6 advantage and never looked back in the game. The Mountaineers added another 18-point run in the third quarter that made the score 68-26. The defense also had its best performance of the year with the lowest total points allowed all season for EOU. The Mounties held the Coyotes (1-10, 1-4 CCC) to just 26.2 percent shooting from the field and under 16 percent from behind the arc. The Blue and Gold forced 17 turnovers with seven steals and seven blocks. Offensively, EOU could not be stopped as the shot just over 50 percent from the floor. Junior guard Maya Ah You-Dias led the team with 18 points despite just playing in 19 minutes. Senior guard Payton Parrish and junior guard Maren Herrud each posted 15 points. Perhaps most impressively was that all 10 players that came in for head coach Anji Weissenfluh made at least one field goal. The Mountaineers moved the ball seamlessly all night as the team recorded a season-high 27 assists on 33 made field goals. Sexson led the team with six assists while Ah You-Dias dished out five and senior forward Stormee Van Belle had four. Sophomore guard Andi Warn came off the bench and had a career-high nine points along with four rebounds and three assists. Senior forward Mariah Swanson added eight points and eight boards, Van Belle had nine rebounds and senior guard Reece Bauer finished with eight rebounds, five points, three assists, two blocks and two steals. The Mounties had incredible offensive outputs of 31 points in the third quarter and 26 in the first. Defensively, they held the Yotes to as few as seven points in the first quarter and then just five points in the fourth. The Coyotes were led by 10 points from Alyssa Case and Lindy Westendorf. Case along with Mackenzie Collins each had five rebounds to pace C of I. The Blue and Gold will go immediately on the road at NCAA Division I University of Idaho on Thursday at 5 p.m. Mountain time for an exhibition contest at CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho.
