ASHLAND – Seventh-ranked Eastern Oregon lived up to its billing against No. 12 Southern Oregon on Saturday night at Mountain Avenue Gym, taking an 81-68 win behind a triple-double from junior guard May Ah You-Dias.
In the Cascade Conference opener between last season's co-champions, Ah You-Dias recorded 12 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists, while post Maren Herrud went 11-of-15 for 26 points off the bench. The Mountaineers (7-2) led by as many as 28 in ending SOU's 31-game conference home winning streak.
They did so by shooting 55 percent (31-of-56) from the field – the best clip for an SOU conference foe in three years – including 9-of-18 accuracy from downtown. While Ah You-Dias and Reece Bauer (9 assists) found Herrud often for mid-range jumpers in the middle of SOU's zone defense, all-conference post Stormee Van Belle also worked inside for 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
The loss was the first of the season for the Raiders (7-1), who will attempt to rebound at 4 p.m. Sunday against The College of Idaho.
Remi Mejia's 18 points and three steals were a bright spot, and Syd'Nee Fryer added nine points and three assists.
SOU ended up with a 32-percent clip overall (23-of-71), but shot just 12-of-56 through the first three quarters.
