ASHLAND – Southern Oregon scored the first 20 points of the night, picked up 31 offensive rebounds and forced 31 turnovers in its most lopsided victory of the season, a 90-39 decision against winless Multnomah on Saturday at Mountain Avenue Gym.
Junior forward Ariel Augustine totaled 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals, and freshman Syd'Nee Fryer recorded her first double-double with 11 points, 13 rebounds and two steals as the 11th-ranked Raiders went to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in the Cascade Conference.
Their dominant performance yielded advantages of 33-2 in fast-break points, 21-2 in second-chance points and 38-9 from the reserves. Eye-popping discrepancies in turnovers and offensive rebounds equated to 38 more field-goal attempts for the Raiders (33-of-88) than the Lions (14-of-50).
A wide cast of contributors got in on the action: Remi Mejia had 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting from 3-points range, six assists and five steals; Sophia Altemus recorded 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals; and Toria Bradford went for 11 points and six assists.
Kenadee Honaker was the only Raider who didn't score, but she made her mark with season-highs of eight rebounds and seven of the team's 26 steals.
By halftime, the Raiders held a 43-16 lead.
The Lions (0-15, 0-5) got 12 points from Valerie Wakefield and 10 from Rachelle Tau.
SOU plays Tuesday at archrival Oregon Tech. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
