PORTLAND, Ore. - Pat Ling scored 22 points and Shawn Spencer finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds Wednesday night but it wasn't enough to prevent The Evergreen State College from dropping an 88-80 overtime decision to Lewis & Clark College in non-conference men's basketball action at Pamplin Sports Center.

The Geoducks (0-8) had two chances inside the final minute to break a 71-71 regulation tie but missed those shots, and they survived to overtime when the Pioneers missed a layup attempt with 13 seconds to play.

With the score tied 75-75 with 3:36 to play in the overtime period, the Pioneers took the lead for good on a pair of Zeke Crawford free throws. Evergreen cut its deficit to 79-77 with 1:25 left on a layin by Kevin Clayton Jr., but the hosts iced the game at the foul line by shootin 7-for-8 down the stretch.

Evergreen started well, racing out to an 8-0 lead behind six points from Ryan Quigley. In fact, the junior forward hit all four of his shot attempts in the first seven minutes before leaving the game with an ankle injury. Still, the Geoducks were able to build a 36-28 halftime lead by shooting 15-for-27 from the field.

Lewis & Clark got back into the game in the second half partially by knocking down six three-point shots.

Joining Ling and Spencer in double-figure scoring for te Geoducks were Clayton with 11 points and Quinton Whitfield with 10. Evergreen held a 46-38 edge in rebounding and finished the game shooting 46 percent (31-for-68), but just 2-for-12 from beyond the three-point line.

Andrew vickers scored 24 points and Kyle Owens added 23 for the Pionners, who got all of their points from just six players.

Evergreen plays another non-conference opponent at 7 p.m. Saturday night when the Linfield Wildcats invade Costantino Recreation Center.
