Dupree Returns to Plague the Eagles
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Former Northwest University All-CCC player, Michael Dupree, returned tonight along with his Seattle Mountaineer teammates to defeat the Eagles 104-96 in an exhibition game in the NU Pavilion.
Dupree led Seattle with 21 points, hitting 8 of 17 shots as the Mountaineers shot 52% for the game, 48% from the 3-point line.
Seattle came out strong in the first half with Dupree hitting 12 of his 21 points in the period. The Mountaineers hit 9 of 16 3-point attempts for 56%. AJ Maw and Andre Hill were both 2 for 2 from beyond the 3-point arc as Seattle would lead 46-38 at halftime.
The Mountaineers slowly pulled away in the second half and with 7:27 to go in the game, would lead by 19, 86-67, after an AJ Maw driving lay-up in the paint. Northwest U would make a run in the final minute of the game cutting into Seattle's 17 points lead and cutting it to eight with Ryan Ricks' 3-pointer with 5 seconds left.
Kaelan Hicks led Northwest U with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Alex Smith dropped in 15 points with teammate Ryan Ricks scoring12 points going 4 for 4 from the field. Rebounds were even at 43 a piece.
For Seattle, in addition to Dupree's 21, DJuan Miller scored 19 points; JB Pillard 18 points; and James Watson 15 points along with 10 rebounds.
"We didn't play with a lot of urgency tonight," said NU coach, Jeff Drinkwine. "Since it was an exhibition, we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to play. We just needed to play with a little more conviction, but I'm confident the team will rebound from this and be ready for our conference opener next week."
