"Our team really performed well down the stretch," said Corban head coach Michelle Skyles. "Our staff was so proud of their maturity in the fourth quarter and the decisions they made. Everyone that played, contributed."
Late in the game, it was Jordan Woodvine leading the way, scoring big bucket after big bucket in the fourth stanza, resulting in the two-point victory. Woodvine finished the night with a game-high 18 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the floor in the win. And while Woodvine finished with a team-best 18 points, it was Maci Bozett who buried the go-ahead game-winning bucket with 26 seconds remaining in regulation.
The first half was back and forth, but the Warriors took a two-point lead into the halftime break thanks to a buzzer-beater from Lindsay Asplund.
In the third quarter, Corban managed to score just 10 points and fell behind by eight points headed to the fourth stanza, but the 23-point final quarter pushed the Warriors over the top.
Emily Yost, like Woodvine, was extremely efficient from the floor, as she tallied 16 points on a 7-for-8 shooting night, while Jordan Rasberry was dominant down low with a team-leading eight rebounds and 10 points, going 5-for-6 from the field.
"To come back after down nine in the third quarter was awesome," said Skyles. "We had great inside play from Emily Yost and Jordan Rasberry. Maci and Treasure had some huge plays down the stretch, and Jordan Woodvine's second-half performance put us in a great position to finish strong. I'm super pumped to get a hard-fought win over a well-coached team."
One of the keys to the win was points in the paint, as Corban did very well inside, totaling 36 points in the pain to just 26 for the Bearcats. In addition, as a team, the Warriors were 7-for-8 from the charity stripe, while Willamette was just 6-for-11.
Corban (5-4) returns to the court in a week when it travels to College of Idaho to take on the Yotes in Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC) action.
