EOU Women’s Basketball and NCU Men’s Basketball Share Team of the Week Honor
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team and the Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team share the “Team of the Week” honors for February 6-12, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The No. 6 Beacons of NCU sealed at least a share of their second consecutive CCC title with wins over Multnomah University 96-76 and Warner Pacific 94-74. Reigning men’s basketball player of the week, Jay Mayernik, continued his torrid double-double pace averaging 23.5-points and 15.5-rebounds on the weekend leading NCU to victory. Kenny Blackwell added 19- points in the win over WPC as the Beacons extended their winning streak to 15.
The No. 17 Eastern Oregon Mountaineers avenged two loses from earlier in the season as they topped No. 5 Southern Oregon and No. 22 Oregon Tech to move into a tie with SOU for first place in the CCC standings at 16-2. In the 74-61 win over Southern, junior Maya Ah You Dias poured in 19-points with senior Ashley Knight adding 12 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Against the lady Owls four Mountaineers were in double digits in the 68-63 win. Darian Gasseling led the way with 16-points followed by Ah You Dias and Knight with 13-points and Stormee Van Bell with 12-points.
Northwest Christian (23-3, 16-2 CCC) will look to capture the regular season title outright as they travel to Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon Feb. 16 and 18.
Eastern Oregon (23-4, 16-2) wraps up the regular season at College of Idaho on Feb. 16 and will host Walla Walla on Feb. 19.
Both NCU and EOU have advanced to the CCC playoffs and will host in the quarterfinals.
