Men’s Basketball Tournament Field Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The qualifiers for the 2016-17 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, have been announced by the conference office. The tournament will feature the top eight teams from the regular season standings. Seeding was based on the regular season finish and the top four teams will host the quarterfinal round which begins this Wednesday at campus sites. Each round the tournament is re-seeded with the highest remaining seeds hosting the lowest remaining seeds.
Eastern Oregon, the College of Idaho and Oregon Tech, all at 15-5, finished tied for 2
nd place in the regular season behind champion and No. 1 seed Northwest Christian. When applying a series of tiebreakers EOU will be seeded No. 2 in the tournament. It took a coin flip to break the tie between CI and OIT for the No. 3 and No. 4 seed. CI won the coin flip and will be seeded 3
rd with Oregon Tech assuming the 4
th seed position.
Corban and Warner Pacific finished tied at 8-12 in CCC play but WPC secured the No. 7 seed with two wins over Corban in the regular season.
As the outright regular season champion and the No. 1 seed NCU secured the first of two AQ’s to the NAIA National Tournament.
The 2
nd automatic qualifier to the NAIA National Tournament will be awarded to the CCC Tournament Champion. If the tournament champion is also regular season champion Northwest Christian, the 2nd AQ shall go to the team that is seeded second in the CCC tournament.
