College of Idaho, Oregon Tech and Eastern Oregon Men’s Basketball Tournament Seeding in the Hands of Today’s Game Results and Coin Flip
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The men’s basketball programs from The College of Idaho and Oregon Tech will experience a March madness moment in February as the fate of where they will seeded in the upcoming CCC Tournament, presented by U.S. Bank, depends on factors out their control.
Both squads wrapped up their regular seasons last night with wins ending with 15-5 CCC records. Here is where it gets interesting. Eastern Oregon, currently at 14-5 plays Walla Walla University today at 3 p.m. and with a win would create a three-way tie for 2
nd place in the standings with CI, OIT and EOU all at 15-5 in league play.
If the above scenario plays out conference guidelines list the following as tiebreaker procedures; head to head results, record against .500 and above teams in conference, record against teams in ascending order of conference finish, sempert point system for league games and finally a coin flip.
In head to head competition all three teams own a win and a loss against each other (3-3) so would remain tied. All three teams are 6-4 against CCC teams that are .500 and above. When looking at record against teams in ascending order the outcome of the Southern Oregon vs. Corban game today has major implications. If Corban defeats SOU, EOU would become the No. 4 seed and CI/OIT are still tied through the remaining tiebreaker criteria and a coin flip will be needed to determine the No. 2 and No. 3 seed. If SOU defeats Corban, EOU would become the No. 2 seed and CI/OIT are still tied through all remaining criteria with a coin flip necessary to determine the No. 3 and No. 4 seed.
With EOU win and CRB loss- EOU No. 2 seed; flip coin for No. 3 and No. 4 seed between CI/OIT
With EOU win and SOU loss-EOU No. 4 seed; flip coin for No. 2 and No. 3 seed between CI/OIT
With EOU loss-EOU No. 4 seed; flip coin for No. 2 and No. 3 seed between CI/OIT
CCC Commissioner Rob Cashell announced that the coin toss will be conducted at the conclusion of the EOU and SOU games today. The toss will be available for fans to view on the EOU vs. WWU webcast on CCCWEBTV at
