LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Cascade Collegiate Conference sponsors a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made up of representatives from each member institution. The function of the committee is to; discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare, assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus, increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process, promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs and provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.

Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC)- How did you choose Corban to continue your athletic and academic career?
Madilyn Melton (MM)- Corban has a very special community that I was able to see a glimpse of when I went on a visit. The Christian element of the school appealed to me when making a decision where to continue my next four years. The students of Corban are very genuine and intentional, which makes campus feel like home.

CCC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?
MM- Any student athlete can confirm that you sacrifice every ounce of free time into being a student athlete. During your season, you are investing all your time into success in your classes and victory on the field. It is a rare occasion to not be in class, traveling, playing, working out, studying, or sleeping.

CCC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?
MM- My freshman year, during the conference tournament my team had a huge comeback, scoring over nine runs to knock out Concordia. We ended up beating OIT twice to be conference champions. No one expected us to come out on top, so to prove our talent to the conference was memorable.

CCC- Who are some influential people in your life at Corban?
MM- I have many people who influence my life for the better. My dad will always be my biggest and favorite fan. I have two mentors who I look up to immensely, Liane Smith and Katie Mayer. These woman live a life I hope to reflect to the extent they do.

CCC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?
MM- I really enjoy going on adventures with good people. Oregon has a lot to offer with views and waterfalls. Going out in nature provides me a lot of perspective and fulfillment.

CCC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?
MM- As a member, I hope to represent and communicate issues of my classmates well. This committee is a resourceful outlet to connect the conference. I aim to be a reflective voice for Corban.

CCC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?
MM- After graduation, I aim to further my education in physical therapy school. PT is a fitting domain for me because it incorporates helping people and working with the human body.
