Owls and Yotes Split Doubleheader
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.- Oregon Tech knocked off College of Idaho in game two after falling to the Yotes in game one 6-2 to earn a split in NAIA-West play at Kiger Stadium Sunday afternoon. The two teams will wrap-up the series Monday with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
Oregon Tech improves to 4-4 in NAIA-West play and 7-11 on the season with College of Idaho moving to 11-12 overall and 4-2 in NAIA-West action with today split.
Game 1 College of Idaho 6 Oregon Tech 2
Zach Draper picked up the win for the Yotes going 7-innings, giving up just 2-run on 6-hits while striking-out 6 Owl batters.
C of I took the early lead with 1-run in the 2
nd on 2-hits. They added 3-runs in the 4
th on 2-hits to take a 4-0 lead.
Tech made it a 4-2 game in the 5
th with 2-runs on 4-hits but left the bases loaded.
C of I added 2 more runs to take a 6-2 lead in the 6
th on 2-hits highlighted by a Bobby Wright double. Wright led the Yotes with 3-hits in the game with Johnny Hyland and Dominic Conigliaro contributing 2-hits each.
Six different Owls had 1-hit each in the game with starter John Schulz picking up the loss on the mound to fall to 1-4 on the year.
Game 2 Oregon Tech 8 College of Idaho 4
In game two Naz Thibodeaux had 4-hits with Louis Wolf homering twice and Michael Kilpatrick (Pictured by Kelly Caleb) slamming a 3-run HR to lead the OIT offense as the Hooter exploded for 8-runs. Doug Molzahn got the start for the Owls as he went 7-innings, giving up only 1-run on 6-hits with 7-strikeouts as he picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the year.
Tech broke open a 1-1 tie with 4-runs in the 5
th on the highlighted by a Kilpatrick 3-run homer, his 2
nd of the year to give the Owls a 5-1 lead.
Tech added 1-run in the 6
th and 2-insurance runs in the 7
th to take an 8-1 lead.
The Yotes didn’t go away quietly; they mounted a rally and scored 3-runs in the 8
th on 4-hits to make it an 8-4 game.
Wes Loy gave up a single and a walk in the bottom of the 9
th but struck-out two of the Yotes final 3 batters to preserve the win for OIT.
The two teams will wrap-up their 4-game series Monday with a doubleheader scheduled for 11:00 am.
