Raiders sharp in outdoor opener at Chico 3/11/2017 8:41:00 PM SOU Sports Information COMPLETE MEET RESULTS CHICO, Calif. – With a majority of the distance crew sitting the weekend out, Southern Oregon's sprinters and field athletes took center stage Saturday as the Raiders opened the outdoor track and field season at Chico State's Wildcat Invitational. Sophomore Rakayla Tyler took over the No. 3 spot on SOU's all-time women's 100-meter dash list, placing second in the finals in 22.27 seconds. She was previously sixth on the list with a best of 12.47. Arianna Daniel, a freshman making her collegiate outdoor debut, notched the Raiders' lone first-place finish by clocking in at 58.22 seconds in the 400 and was also third in the 200 at 25.60. Senior Lauren McGowne, back on the track for the first time since 2015 after wrapping an All-American volleyball career, added third-place showings in the 100-meter hurdles (15.44) and the long jump (17 feet 8 ¾ inches). For the men, all four Raiders who appeared in the 100 won their preliminary heats – Dwight Shaw (10.84), Aidan Tank (10.93), Jeremiah Emershey (10.96) and Cameron Bremner (11.00). In the finals, Bremner was second (10.91), Emershy fifth (11.07) and Tank seventh (11.14). Shaw, a junior transfer from Modesto C.C., sat out the 100 final after clocking the second-fastest prelim time of 36 total runners. But he also appeared in the long jump, taking third of 23 with a mark of 22-9 ¾. Zach Beltz, the Cascade Conference's defending long jump champion, was just ahead of Shaw in second at 23-2 – ¾ of an inch short of a provisional qualifying mark for the NAIA Championships. The Raider men's 4x100 relay team of Emershey, Bremner, Tank and Eli Chapman claimed second of nine teams with a time of 42.18. Elsewhere in the field for SOU's men, Dylan Castle was third in the high jump (6-2), Beltz was fifth in the triple jump (41-9 ¼) and Joseph Dotson and Nathan Bishop tied for sixth in the pole vault (14-1 ¼). Hannah Lambert represented the Raider women in the field by placing third in the hammer (130-9) and seventh of 22 in the shot put (36-1 ½). Bree Weber led sizable Raider contingents in two events – taking 13h of 39 in the 800 (2:27.45) and 17th of 46 in the 1,500 (5:03.49). SOU is in action again next Friday and Saturday at Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational. SOU MEN'S RESULTS 100m prelims (36 total entries) 2. Dwight Shaw, 10.84* 4. Aidan Tank, 10.93* 5.
