Eagles Split with Yotes on Day Two
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University and the College of Idaho split their second doubleheader of the weekend with the
Yotes taking game one, 12-0 in 5 innings and the Eagles coming back to win the second game, 4-2. Pitching highlighted the day with Colette Robert's one hitter in game one and Rachel Hawley's two hitter in the second game.
Game 1 – College of Idaho 12, Northwest U 0 (5 innings)
Collette Robert pitched a strong game for the second day in a row just missing a no-hitter as
Dani Bonsky broke it up in the 5
th inning as the
Yotes would go on to blank Northwest U, 12-0. Colette retired 13 straight Eagle batters with no walks until
Bonsky hit a triple with one out in the 5
th inning to break up the perfect game.
On offense, the College of Idaho scored their 12 runs on 10 hits including a solo home run by Martha
Tooley in the 2
nd inning.
Tooley had a good day at the plate going 2 for 2, scoring three times and driving in 2 runs. C of I used two big innings to score 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 costly NU errors in the 4
th inning and 4 runs on 2 hits in the 5
th to put the game away.
Northwest U (7-19, 3-12 CCC) managed one base runner, Danielle
Bonsky and her triple. Stephanie Granger pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 11 runs on 9 hits. The Eagles committed 4 errors for the day.
Colette faced 16 batters for the College of Idaho (12-14, 9-6 CCC) and did not issue a base on balls while striking out 4 Eagles. Delaney Atkins was 1 for 1, scored once and had 1 RBI while teammate Kristin
Paulazzo was 2 for 3, scoring twice and drove in 1 run.
Game 2 – Eagles 4, Yotes 2
NU's freshman pitcher Rachel Hawley limited the College of Idaho to two hits and she earned a 4-2 non-conference victory in the final game of the four game series between the two teams.
Hawley and the NU defense got out of bases loaded jams in the 4
th and 5 innings giving up just one run in each inning. Five of Hawley’s eight walks came in the 4
th and 5
th.
Northwest U took and early 1-0 lead in the 1
st inning when Maggie
Harshaw hit a two out single to left field bringing in
Yeawa Asabi who had walked earlier.
The College of Idaho tied the game in the 4
th inning on a hit batter with the bases loaded and took a 2-1 lead in the 5
th inning when Courtney Ellis scored on a fielder’s choice. Northwest U then regained the lead in the bottom of the 5
th scoring 3 runs on 2 hits and 2 C of I errors.
Darian Godfrey and
Yeawa opened the inning with back-to-back singles and then both scored on a C of I error.
Northwest U would hold the
Yotes scoreless in the 6
th inning and Hawley would end the game in the 7
th striking out
Trystin Crofts and getting pinch hitter Delaney Atkins to ground out for the win.
Maggie
Harshaw led Northwest U (8-19) going 1 for 2 with 1 RBI while
Yeawa Asabi was 2 for 3 and score twice for the Eagles. Rachel Hawley earned the win in the circle facing 34 C of I batters giving up the two hits, striking out 5.
The College of Idaho’s (12-15) Destiny Turner and Alex
Kordopatis had the two hits for the
Yotes. Ashley
Pesek pitched 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits.
