Raiders Sweep Past Owls
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.- The Harlee Donovan show continued for Southern Oregon University as the junior hit her 5
th HR of the series, a 2-run home run in the 3
rd inning leading the No. 21-ranked Southern Oregon University Raiders past No. 25 Oregon Tech 9-1 in a 5 inning shortened game. The win gives the Raiders the four game series sweep over the Owls.
Donovan hit a 2-run home run in the top of the 7th to tie game one and send it into extra innings where the Raiders scored the winning run in the 8th to down Tech 7-6 at the OIT Softball Field. Donovan has homered 6 games in a row for the Raiders.
SOU moves to 32-9 on the year and 16-5 in the CCC; OIT falls to 24-12 overall and 14-7 on the year.
Game 1 – Southern Oregon 7 Oregon Tech 6
OIT took its first lead of the series in the bottom of the 2
nd inning on a Sydni Scott RBI single to give the Owls the 1-0 lead.
The Raiders responded, taking a 4-1 lead in the top of the 3
rd on 5-hits including three doubles.
Tech made it a 4-2 game in the bottom of the inning on a Rashaun Sells RBI double.
Sadie Birch then made it a 4-3 game in the bottom of the 4
th with her 9
th homer of the season.
Things really looked good for the Owls in the bottom of the 5
th taking a 6-4 lead, scoring 3-runs on 4-hits.
Cue Donovan for the heroics; the junior slammed a 3-2 change-up over the left field fence for a 2-run HR, tying the game at 7.
SOU then scored the game winner in the top of the 8
th on a Kelsey Randal RBI single, scoring Abi Lund who had doubled to start the inning.
SOU out-hit the Owls 15-9 in the game led by Kayleen Smith who was 3 for 5.
Victoria Mackey picked up the win for SOU, improving to 4-0
Game 2 – Southern Oregon 9 Oregon Tech 1 (5innings) Non-Conference.
SOU took an early 1-0 lead in the first on 3-hits.
The Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring 2-runs on 3-hits in the 3
rd including the Donovan HR.
Tara Moates continued to swing well, stroking her 8
th homer of the year and 3
rd in the series, cutting the SOU lead to 3-1. That would be all the scoring the Owls would get on the day.
SOU added 2-runs in the 4
th on 3-hits, taking a 5-1 lead. The Raiders then put the game away with 4-runs in the 5
th on 4-hits highlighted by an Abi Lund 3-run inside the park home run, her first HR of the year.
After the Owls went down in order in the bottom of the 5
th the game ended by mercy rule.
Karlee Coughlin led the Raiders with 3-hits in the win and was also the winning pitcher, throwing all 5-innings, allowing just 4-hits as she improved to 11-0 on the year.
