Gretz and Dodd Take Home CCC Multi-Event Championships

HERMISTON, Ore. – When the 2017 CCC Multi-Event Championships presented by US Bank came to an end Friday afternoon, Oregon Tech’s Seth Gretz and Eastern Oregon’s Paige Dodd came out on top as conference champions.  
 
Despite being in third place to start the day, Gretz used a strong day two performance to move up two spots to take first. The Owl finished with 6,760 points, 65 points ahead of Southern Oregon’s Joe Dotson.
 
On the second day, Gretz took first in two events, the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.07 and in the pole vault, where the Owl seemed to soar, clearing 4.90 meters, qualifying for an NAIA ‘A’ Standard.
 
With only three events on the day, Dodd completed her sweep, taking both day one and day two with a combined 4,433 points. The Mountaineer took second in the javelin, throwing 32.01 meters. In her first heptathlon, Dodd now sits at fifth all-time for EOU.
 
MEN
Despite being the only Raider, Dotson secured second, winning the 1500 in a time of 4:27.51. He also wrapped up second in the pole vault (4.40 meters) and third in the 110 hurdles (16.40), the discus (39.89 meters), and in the javelin (48.66 meters).
 
Corban’s Jason Bracken, who started the day in first, finished the day in third with 6,319 points. Bracken won the discus and javelin, throwing 44.99 meters and 54.24 meters respectively. 
 
College of Idaho’s Brooks Ney took fourth with 6,171 points, followed by Corban freshman Michael Schmidt with 6,151 points. Sixth place fell to Yote freshman Kristopher Kostelecky (5,895 points) and Regan Shira of Corban carded seventh (5,767 points).
 
COI’s Matt McLaughlin earned eighth place with 5,339 points and EOU senior Jeremiah Woods placed ninth with 5,327 points. Fellow Mountie Max Fahlgren came in 10th with 4,972 points. Lastly, Seth Larson of Corban finished in 11th as the freshman marked 4,796 points.
 
WOMEN
Oregon Tech’s Amber Von Essen took home second place. The sophomore took second in the long jump, jumping 4.98 meters. Von Essen also earned third in the 800, completing it in 2:22.56.
 
Kami Hawkins rounds out the top three with 4,340 points. The Yote took home first in the 100 hurdles (15.65) and in the 200 (25.73).
 
Corban Warrior Lindsay Asplund took fourth with 4,016 points as Maddie Brown of COI came in fifth with 3,970 points. Her teammate, Allison Cossins came in sixth (3,862 points) but took first in the shot put, throwing 9.62 meters.
 
Kimber Hawkins ended in seventh with 3,770 points and Emily Campbell of Northwest placed eighth with 2,397 points.
