CCC Men’s Golf Championships Presented by U.S. Bank Tee off Today
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The 2017 Cascade Collegiate Conference Men’s Golf Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, get underway today in Springfield, Ore., with teams vying for an automatic qualification to the NAIA National Tournament.
Fresh off of their regular season title Corban University has to be the slight favorite over runner-up Oregon Tech. The Warriors completed 15 rounds in 4,430 strokes for an average of 295.3. Golfers in the individual top seven for stoke average include No. 2 Kasey Crossland (73.3), No. 3 Devery Stewart (73.7) and No. 7 Aaron Seabrook 75.7.
Defending tournament champion Oregon Tech finished in 2
nd place in the regular season, carding 4,463 strokes over 15 rounds for a stroke average of 297.5. Montana Frame leads all CCC golfers in stroke average at 71.8. Houston Knox is the only other Owl in the top seven with a stroke average of 75.4 which is good the No. 5 spot.
Both Corban and Oregon Tech are receiving votes in the latest NAIA coaches’ poll.
Jeremie Eloy leads a Warner Pacific squad into the championships with a 74.4 stroke average. The Knights finished 3
rd in the regular season with a stroke average of 308. 4 and 4,626 total strokes just edging out tournament host Northwest Christian who finished 4
th. The Beacons, under the direction of former CCC Men’s Golf Player of the Year Tyler Falk carded 4,627 strokes and an average of 308.5.
The College of Idaho and Walla Walla University round out the six teams competing for the title. Multnomah University will send individuals vying for medalist honors.
Teams will compete over two days and 36 holes at Springfield Golf Club. Originally scheduled for 54 holes with 36 being played on Monday, the tournament was shortened to two days of 18 holes each due to course conditions and weather forecast. Heavy rains are expected today through Tuesday hampering an already soggy course which threatened the ability to get all 36 holes in on Monday.
The Winning team will receive the CCC’s automatic qualification to the NAIA National Championships which will be held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., May 16-19.
