Owls Power Past Eagles in Sweep

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.-  Tara Moates had a heck of day for the Lady Owls.  The two time All-American went 7 for 7 at the plate with three home runs including a grand slam, she had three doubles and 12 RBI leading Oregon Tech to a sweep of Northwest University 17-2 and 11-7 at the OIT Softball Field Friday afternoon. OIT improves to 19-7 in CCC play and 29-13 on the year with the Eagles falling to 13-28 overall and 6-20 in CCC play with today’s results.
 
Game 1 Oregon Tech 17 Northwest 2 (5 innings)
Moates had two home runs, including a grand slam, two doubles and nine RBI leading Oregon Tech to a 17-2,  game 1.
 
Tech dominated from start to finish scoring 2-runs in the first inning on the first homer of the day for Moates, a 2-run blast to deep left-center.
 
After NU added a run in the 3rd, Tech broke the game wide open in the bottom of the inning scoring 7-runs on only 3-hits including a 3-run double by Moates as the Owls took a commanding 9-1 lead.
 
The Owls then added a snowman to the scoreboard in the 4th scoring 8 more runs highlighted by a grand slam homer from Moates, her 11th long ball of the year as OIT won 17-2.
 
Tech’s Loryn Williams picked up the win to improve to 10-7 on the year.
 
After Moates, Tech was led offensively by Rachael Delamare, Katie Virtue, Sadie Birch, and Cassidy Hoglund who all had 2-hits each in the win.
 
Savannah Rush was 3 for 3 at the plate to lead Northwest.
 
Game 2 Oregon Tech 11 Northwest 7
Oregon Tech scored 8-runs in the 5th and 6th innings to come from behind and down Northwest University 11-7 in game two to complete the sweep.
 
The Eagles started hot as they scored 1-run in the 1st, 3-runs in the 2nd and 2-runs in the 3rd taking a 6-0 lead. Scoring the 6-runs on 7-hits taking advantage of 2-walks and 2-Oregon Tech errors.
 
Tech answered with 3-runs in the bottom of the 3rd highlighted by a Moates 2-run blast to right field, her 3rd of the day, and 13 of the year making it a 6-3 game.
 
NU increased their lead to 7-3 with a run in the 4th on 2-hits and yet another OIT error.
 
After a Moates walk in the bottom of the 5th, Rashaun Sells blasted a 2-run homer to center cutting the NU lead to 7-5. Ali Graham got in on the fun as she followed with her 8th home run of the year to left field making it a 7-6 game.
 
Oregon Tech then completed the comeback in the 6th with 5-runs on 5-hits capped off with a monster 3-run home run to left field off the bat of senior Sadie Birch, giving her 10 homers on the year, and giving the Owls the 11-7 lead and the win after NU went down in the 7th.
 
Williams picked up the win for the Owls, pitching the final 5 innings to improve to 11-7 on the year.
 
Moates was again perfect at the plate, going 3 for 3 to lead OIT with Virtue and Sells adding 2-hits each in the win.
 
Allie Anderegg led the Eagles offense with a 3-hit effort with Rush adding 2-hits as well in the loss.
 
The two teams will conclude their 4-game series with a doubleheader starting at 11:00 am Saturday on Senior Day as 5 Owls will be honored between the twin bill.
