Oregon Tech Seniors Shine with Sweep of Eagles

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.-  Oregon Tech completes the season sweep of Northwest University as Kelly Scott and Ali Graham combined on a 2-hit shutout in game 2 as the Owls won 7-0 after winning game 1, 8-4 at the OIT Softball Field. Tech improves to 31-13 on the year and ends Cascade Conference play at 20-7 in a 2nd place tie with Southern Oregon. The Raiders however will be the No. 2 seed and OIT will be the No. 3 seed in the CCC Tournament as The Raiders swept the season series from the Owls.
 
Game 1 Oregon Tech 8 Northwest 4
Oregon Tech scored a pair of runs in the 5th and 6th innings to break up a 4-4 game and complete a Cascade Conference sweep of Northwest University (13-30, 6-21 in CCC) winning 8-4. On senior day, the Owls five seniors (Pictured L-R Sydni Scott, Katie Virtue, Sadie Birch, Cassidy Hoglund, Karly LeVeque) each had at least one hit and accounted for 10 of the team’s 16 total hits in the win.
 
Tech took an early lead with 1-run on 3-hits in the bottom of the 1st.
 
NU tied the game in the top of the 2nd scoring 1-run off a Dani Bonsky RBI single.
 
Tech then went back up 3-1 with 2-runs in the 3rd highlighted by a Tara Moates’ RBI double.
 
The Eagles then took their first and only lead of the day in the top of the 4th with 3-runs on 4-hits including a home run by Savannah Rush her 5th of the year.
 
Tech tied the game at 4-4 with 1-run in the 4th on 2-hits.
 
The Owls then took over the game with 2-runs in the 5th to take a 6-4 lead on an RBI single by senior Karly LeVeque.
 
Senior Sadie Birch then put the game away with a towering 2-run homer to deep left, her 11 of the year as the Owls won 8-4.
 
Loryn Williams picked up the win in the circle for OIT, improving to 12-7 on the year.
 
Leveque’s 3-hits led the team with Katie Virtue, Moates, Birch, Graham, and Cassidy Hoglund all adding 2-hits in the win.
 
Rush continued to swing a hot bat for Northwest as she led the Eagles with 3-hits.
 
Game 2 Oregon Tech 7 Northwest 0 Non-conference
 
Graham and Scott pitched a 2-hit shut-out to lead the Hooter to the win.
 
Tech scored 3-runs in the 1st on 4-hits highlighted by a Birch 2-RBI single.
 
The Owls then added 1-run in the 2nd inning on a Graham RBI single to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Tech then put the game away with 3-runs in the 3rd on 4n a Graham RBI single to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Tech then put the game away with 3-runs in the 3rd on 4-hits to win 7-0.
 
Rashaun Sells and Birch had 2-hits and 3 RBI each to lead the Owls in the win.
 
Oregon Tech will now travel to Corban University for the Cascade Conference Tournament starting this Friday, May 5th in Salem, Oregon.
