LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The Northwest Christian University men’s golf team has been named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Team of the Week, the conference office announced Sunday, after improbably winning the CCC Tournament championship Tuesday at the Springfield Golf Club.

The Beacons posted the fourth-best scoring average in the circuit during the regular season and had to upend Corban, the regular-season champion, and Oregon Tech, the defending tourney champion. They got out to a six-stroke lead after Monday’s first round and ultimately held on to edge Corban on Tuesday by two strokes with a 30-over-par 606.

The win gave the Beacons an automatic bid to the NAIA Championships, where they’ll appear as a full team for the first time in program history on May 16-17 at TPC Deer Run in Kansas City, Mo.

Josh Goins also gave them the first back-to-back conference champion in seven years. The sophomore from Lebanon, Ore., fired a two-under 70 in the first round and a 72 in the second for the two-stroke victory. He got plenty of help from his teammates – notably seventh-place Levi Dean (78-74), 12th-place Austin Dame (77-80) and 13th-place Jack Singleton (80-78).

NCU’s Tyler Falk was named the CCC Coach of the Year, becoming the second individual in the history of the conference – in any sport – to earn Player of the Year and later Coach of the Year kudos.
