ASHLAND
– The College of Idaho women built a commanding lead Friday and, predictably, turned it into a fifth consecutive title Saturday at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Track and Field Championships presented by U.S. Bank at Raider Stadium.

The Yotes’ total of 218.5 points was their highest during the run – they had 146 when the day began – and Austin Basterrechea was voted Coach of the Year as a result. They also produced the Field Athlete of the Meet, junior Claire Otero, who added a discus title on Day 2 after winning the hammer on Day 1. Including the heptathlon at the CCC Multi-Event Championships, they accumulated 125 points in the field.

SOU finished second with 176.5 points – its first top-two finish since 2005 – and had the Track Athlete of the Meet in sophomore sprinter Rakayla Tyler, who set a new meet record in the 100, won the 200, placed third in the 400, helped the Raiders’ 4x100 team to a meet record and their 4x400 team to another victory. SOU totaled nine event victories overall.

Eastern Oregon (122) took third and Oregon Tech (103) was fourth.

Below is a recap of Saturday’s events in the order they unfolded:

Pole Vault: Living up to her top seed to deliver C of I’s first-ever title in the pole vault, junior Allison Cossins cleared 10 feet 11 ¾ inches, erasing her old season best of 10-6. SOU sophomore Madison Kansala went 10-6 for runner-up honors after coming in with a No. 5 seed and a previous personal best of 9-6 ¼, and OIT’s Danielle Michael pulled in an All-CCC accolade as a freshman by clearing 10-6.

Discus: In yet another throwing discipline dominated by C of I, No. 2 seed Claire Otero defended her title with a mark of 148-1 on her third attempt, her best of the season. Teammate Brooklyn Daylong registered 143-4 for second place – the Yotes scored 25 points in all in the event – while SOU sophomore Hannah Lambert stole third place by four inches as the No. 7 seed at 134-5, repeating as an All-CCC performer.

Triple Jump: With the top seven spots occupied by underclassmen, OIT freshman Jasmine James led the way with a mark of 35-7 ¾, capturing the Owls’ first triple jump title since they won seven in a row from 2000-06. EOU freshman Payton Jolley took second place with a mark of 35-6 ½ as the No. 6 seed, and C of I sophomore Kami Hawkins was third at 34-10 ½, beating out Corban’s Shelby Jenkins by a quarter inch.

Javelin: NCU’s Bailey Dell and Madeleine Nelson delivered on their seedings in a field of four automatic qualifiers for the NAIA Championships. Dell defended her title with a best of 156-9 on her first attempt, and Nelson placed second for the second year in a row at 139-8. Miller’s ‘A’ throw of 136-3 was good for third place, while EOU’s Karianne Zollman (131-4) and Elizabeth McCarthy (129-4) both hit ‘B’ marks.

100 Meters: SOU sophomore Rakayla Tyler’s third All-CCC run of the weekend established a couple new benchmarks. She hit an NAIA ‘A’ standard and broke the old meet record of 11.93 seconds (established in 2012) with a time of 11.87, also clipping her own school record. OIT’s Margaret Paul (11.98) placed second with an ‘A’ mark after coming in with the No. 4 seed, and SOU produced the next three placers in Arianna Daniel (12.27), Margot Hamman (12.46) and Erika Soderstrom (12.54). The Raiders hadn’t won the 100 since 2007.

800 Meters: After placing third a year ago, top-seeded Aspen Abbott collected SOU’s first-ever 800 win in 2:15.25. She edged Northwest’s Lily Engelbreket, who came in at 2:15.91, and third-place Lila Klopfenstein (2:16.01).

400-Meter Hurdles: EOU’s Katie Emerson took first in 1:03.58, leading seven sophomores who filled the top seven spots. C of I’s Kami Hawkins (1:03.58), and EOU had another All-CCC finisher in Haley Hawkins (1:04.43).

200 Meters: Racing as the No. 3 seed, SOU’s Rakayla Tyler won another title and became an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Championships with a time of 24.60, crushing her previous best of 25.66 and matching the SOU all-time record. The Raiders’ Arianna Daniel also hit the ‘A’ as the runner-up in 25.00, and OIT’s Amber Von Essen took third in 25.62. The 200 title was SOU’s first since 2007.

5,000 Meters: For the second consecutive season, SOU junior Jessa Perkinson took home the 5K title – she also won the 1,500 on Friday – and did it with a time of 16:37.47 that easily erased the old meet record of 16:51.84 that was established in 2011. C of I had three top-eight finishers, led by runner-up freshman Molly Vitale-Sullivan (17:18.36), and NCU All-American Sierra Brown (17:22.85) repeated as All-CCC in the event.

4x400-Meter Relay: For the first time since 2006, SOU’s team of Rakayla Tyler, Aspen Abbott, Savannah Greenwade and Arriana Daniel gave the Raiders a title and cleared the field by nearly nine seconds in 3:56.37 to sweep the relays. OIT (4:05.11) was second and EOU (4:07.28) was third.
