Eagle Hoop Team Departs for Mission Trip 5/4/2017 4:40:23 PM KIRKLAND, Wash. – While most Northwest University students will be heading home after the final day of final exams this week, the Eagle women’s basketball team will be departing for New Mexico and another summer mission trip to the Menaul School in Albuquerque. This will be the second trip in three years to the school in southwest and the week-long stay will be a full schedule of activities with the team members and coaches interacting with the faculty and students at the school. The Eagles will depart Sea-Tac Airport on Sunday and will return to Kirkland on Friday, May 12. Activities for the team will include a four day basketball clinic for the middle and upper school students; chapel led by the Eagle team; assisting in a local elementary school run; a middle school learning expedition; interacting with students in classes; and leading a lunch time seminar at the school. The team will be staying in Teacher Hall on campus. The Menaul School got its start in 1896, when Rev. James A. Menaul, a Presbyterian minister, sought and received Presbyterian mission funding for a boarding school that would serve Spanish-speaking boys from New Mexico, primarily from the northern portion of the state. The school has evolved into a co-educational school with a diverse student body.
